Solidarity with Fouad Abdelmoumni and all prisoners of conscience in North Africa
The Committee for the Respect of Freedoms and Human Rights in Tunisia expresses its firm condemnation of the unjust verdict against Moroccan human rights activist and former political prisoner, Fouad Abdelmoumni, following the decision of the Casablanca Court of First Instance on February 3, 2025, sentencing him to six months in prison on charges of "disseminating false information".
The Committee considers that this iniquitous sentence is part of the repressive policy adopted by authoritarian regimes in the Maghreb aimed at intimidating and repressing all voices calling for freedom, democracy and human rights.
While affirming our full support for Mr. Abdelmoumni and all political prisoners of conscience in Morocco, we call on all human rights activists and political actors in the Maghreb region to strengthen their solidarity and mobilization in the face of the repression exercised by our regimes against our peoples.
We also call on all forces committed to justice and freedom in the Mediterranean and around the world to denounce this unjust condemnation and to stand alongside the living forces of the Maghreb to demand the release of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, and to defend our peoples' right to freedom, dignity and democracy.
