On Tuesday November 12, 2024, the Financial Investigation Unit took Abdallah El Said, an activist and president of the Association "Enfants de la Lune de Médenine", into custody. Following lengthy questioning, the charges against Abdallah Said have not yet been specified, but they mainly concern activities linked to the care of refugee, migrant and abandoned children, which are part of the association's activities in the Médenine region.

The humanitarian work of Abdallah Said, of Chadian origin and active in Tunisia for many years, on behalf of migrant and refugee children has already been the subject of hate and racist campaigns on social networks.

Abdallah Said enjoys full civil and political rights as a Tunisian citizen, and carries out his civic activities in compliance with the law. His only "crime" is to be involved in the territory where he has decided to live, and to show solidarity with migrant and refugee children in the Médenine region.

Abdallah Said is incarcerated as part of a policy of criminalizing solidarity with migrant people, which has resulted in numerous arrests and incessant prosecutions in cases for which no hearings have yet been set. Since the meeting of the National Security Council in May 2024, this campaign has begun and continues today, highlighting every day the defense of new people for investigation for the sole purpose of providing humanitarian aid to migrants.

The Follow-up Committee highlights the purely political nature of the investigation, which runs counter to international agreements signed by the Tunisian state, and calls for an end to the policy of criminalizing solidarity with migrants, and for the release of all those arrested and detained, as well as a halt to all proceedings against them.
