Case: Conspiracy against State Security

On June 16, 2023, the examining magistrate of the Judicial Pole in the Fight against Terrorism issued a decision banning audiovisual media coverage of developments in the case of plotting against State security. Denounced by several members of Tunisian civil society, notably the SNJT and FTDJ, this decision was confirmed on July 13, 2023 by the indictment chamber specializing in terrorism cases.

Denounced by several members of Tunisian civil society, notably the SNJT and FTDJ, this decision was confirmed on July 13, 2023 by the indictment chamber specializing in terrorism cases. 

Chaima Issa and Lazher Akremi were released on July 13, 2023. Both are, however, forbidden to travel or appear in public. 

The examining magistrate at the counter-terrorism unit has tacitly rejected the requests for release submitted on behalf of Khayam Turki, Issam Chebbi, Jaouhar Ben Mbarek, Ghazi Chaouachi, Ridha Belhadj and Abdelhamid Jlassi. 

On August 22, 2023, the committal orders against Ridha Belhadj, Jaouhar Ben M'barek, Abdelhamid Jlassi, Khayam Turki, Ghazi Chaouachi and Issam Chebbi were renewed. 

On September 12, 2023, the examining magistrate in charge of the case issued international arrest warrants for twelve "defendants in a state of flight outside the national territory". They are Youssef Chahed, former head of government between August 2016 and February 2020, Nadia Akacha, former minister-counsellor and head of the presidential cabinet between January 2020 and January 2022, Lotfi Zitoun, former leader of Ennahdha, former political advisor to head of government Hamadi Jebali and former Minister of Local Affairs between February and July 2020, Moadh Khriji, son of Ennahdha leader Rached Ghannouchi, Adel Daadaa, businessman and member of Ennahdha, Chahrazed Akache, journalist implicated in the leaked recordings with Ennahdha's interim president, Maher Zid, former deputy of the Al Karama Coalition, Mustapha Khedher, accused in the murders of Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi, Kamel Guizani, former Director General of National Security and former Tunisian Ambassador to The Hague and Manama, Abdelkader Farhat, former Director of the El Gorjani Judicial Police (to be confirmed), Ali Hlioui, businessman, and Rafik Yahya.
