Building the rule of law in Syria

After crushing Syrians' breasts, paralyzing their breath and stifling their freedom for over fifty years, the odious Baath regime has fallen in Syria. Bashar al-Assad and his family fled without even informing his close collaborators, even those who were his executioners and his terrifying tools for hunting down, imprisoning, torturing, killing and displacing hundreds of thousands of opponents of all stripes and orientations. The world discovered the horrific conditions of Saydnaya prison, its dark rooms and morbid cells, and heard horrific accounts of detention conditions, torture and deliberate murder.

Between pro-Palestinian populism and repression of dissent

The Tunisian government, which proclaims its support for the Palestinian cause, seems more concerned with a populist façade than with concrete action in favor of Palestinian rights. While calls for solidarity are multiplying on a verbal level, the government's recent actions, such as signing an agreement with NATO, cast a pall over these declarations. Indeed, Tunisia's recent return to military alliances can be seen as a betrayal of its declared values, calling into question the sincerity of its commitment to Palestine.

Meeting-debate (September 8, 2022) with Adel Ltifi, historian and political player
on the theme: "LE RÉFÉRENDUM CONSTITUTIONNEL, ET APRÈS! Où VA LA TUNISIE?" (The Constitutional Referendum and afterwards!).
Eleven years after the revolution and 3 years after the 2019 presidential elections, the country finds itself mired in an unprecedented social and economic crisis, coupled with a political and institutional crisis of confidence. Never since independence has executive power been so monopolized by the head of state, who effectively monopolizes all powers without any institutional checks or balances. On July 25, 2022, the President even granted himself a new, made-to-measure constitution, approved by referendum without any prior debate. This is a serious precedent and an attack on the very principle of the rule of law. The 2022 constitution reflects the project that Kaïs Saïed intends to impose on the country. It carries the seeds of division and threatens social and national cohesion. After the constitutional referendum, where is Tunisia headed?
The CRLDHT has joined forces with associations of Tunisians in France to pay tribute to our comrade Tarek Ben Hiba at the Maison de Tunisie- Pavillon Habib Bourguiba (July 5, 2022). A founding member of our association, Tarek Ben Hiba belonged to a generation of militants who gave without counting the cost. Active in the struggles of North African immigrants in France, he was also involved in the Tunisian associative movement. He was also an active member of the struggles of the Tunisian people that led to the Tunisian revolution, and was a member of the High Authority for the Objectives of the Revolution, Political Reform and Democratic Transition, representing Tunisian immigration.
Rencontre/LiQuaèts (March 24, 2022) with Kamel Jendoubi on "La Tunisie vote, récit d'un auteur engagé" (title of his book published in 2021) at the Maison de Tunisie foundation. The event is moderated by Frédéric Bobin, journalist with Le Monde, with the participation of Sophie Bessis, historian, and Sana Sboui, investigative journalist.
"Rencontres / LiQuaèts": a meeting-debate (January 15, 2022) around Mohamed-Chérif Férjani's latest book, "Néolibéralisme et révolution conservatrice" (Tunis, Nirvana, 2021).
Following a series of serious decisions taken by the President of the Republic since his coup de force on July 25, 2021, the latest of which is the dismissal of 57 judges, followed by a smear campaign on social networks against some of them, The CRLDHT, together with 30 other organizations, has taken the initiative of calling for a rally on Tuesday June 14 at 6pm in front of the Tunisian embassy in Paris, metro Saint-François Xavier, under the slogans : Freedoms in danger!Pour l'indépendance de la justice et la séparation des pouvoirs, l'Egalité et la dignité de la Femme en Tunisie.
Commemorate the Revolution of Freedom and Dignity "December 17 - January 14" - 11 years later! by organizing a rally in Paris Saturday, January 15, 2022 - 3pm - 5pm. Fontaine des Innocents. The situation the country has been experiencing since the coup de force of July 25, 2021 is fraught with great dangers, not only for the nascent democracy and the rule of law, with individual and collective freedoms at the forefront, but also for the institutions of the State. We Tunisians abroad, committed to the aspirations of the revolution and the defense of its achievements, are determined to remain faithful to the symbolism of January 14, 2011, the anniversary of the Tunisian revolution.
