The Comité pour le Respect des Libertés et des Droits de l'Homme en Tunisie (CRLDHT) expresses its deepest concern at the alarming situation of Me Abir Moussi, President of the Parti Destourien Libre (PDL), arbitrarily detained since October 3, 2023. Faced with abusive conditions of detention, systematic judicial harassment and the deprivation of her fundamental rights, Abir Moussi has been on a wildcat hunger strike since February 12, 2025, to protest against the repression to which she is being subjected and to demand her immediate release.
The arrest and prolonged detention of Me Abir Moussi are part of a climate of increasing repression against the Tunisian opposition. Her crime? Exercising her legitimate rights to freedom of expression, opinion and peaceful political action. For several months, she has been held in arbitrary detention, deprived of regular contact with her lawyers and family, and subjected to degrading prison conditions.
The CRLDHT points out that these practices are flagrant violations of Tunisia's international commitments, in particular the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Faced with this worrying situation, the Comité pour le Respect des Libertés et des Droits de l'Homme en Tunisie :
- Strongly denounces the political and judicial persecution of Me Abir Moussi.
- Holds the Tunisian authorities fully responsible for any deterioration in his state of health and the consequences of his hunger strike.
- Demands her immediate release and the dropping of all unfounded charges against her.
- Calls for urgent intervention by national and international human rights organizations to put an end to this injustice.
The CRLDHT calls on all democratic forces, civil society organizations, international institutions and committed citizens to mobilize against this repression:
- By publicly condemning these violations of fundamental rights.
- By demanding that the Tunisian authorities respect their international commitments.
- By actively supporting the campaign for the release of Me Abir Moussi and all prisoners of conscience in Tunisia.
Abir Moussi's case is not an isolated one: many political opponents, human rights activists and journalists are currently suffering similar persecution. This policy of repression aims to stifle all dissident voices and destroy all spaces of freedom in Tunisia.
The CRLDHT reaffirms its unwavering commitment to freedoms and democracy, and points out that the struggle to free Abir Moussi is above all a struggle to safeguard the rule of law and democratic principles in Tunisia.
