Women's voices " أصوات نساء " silenced: new symptom of authoritarianism

For a month, from August 14 to September 14, 2025, the association أصوات نساء ("Voix des Femmes") was silenced. Officially, a simple administrative stop. In reality, a political punishment. This is not an isolated episode, but a further step in the programmed disappearance of Tunisia's democratic space.

By suspending أصوات نساء, dozens of abused women have been abandoned to their fate. It's the women farm workers who have lost their support. It's the women's clubs, rare safe spaces, that have been closed. The administration transformed the right of association into a revocable privilege, and freedom into imposed silence.

The association's half-yearly report is clear: violence against women is exploding. Nine feminicides in just a few months. Hundreds of cases of physical, psychological and sexual assault. In this context, to prevent an organization from taking action is to organize impunity and condone violence.

By targeting أصوات نساء, the regime is sending a crystal-clear message: it's no longer about dialogue with civil society, but about reducing it to a decorative function. Feminism is treated as a threat, because it refuses obedience.
This is no longer a shift, but a rupture: democracy is no longer in danger, it's already buried.

What remains is resistance in the name of dignity, justice and the memory of struggles. It's up to Tunisians to refuse the work we're doing.
