The Comité pour le Respect des Libertés et des Droits de l'Homme en Tunisie (CRLDHT) expresses its profound solidarity with political prisoners Jawhar Ben Mbarek and Saïed Ferjani, now on hunger strike as a symbol of ultimate resistance to institutionalized injustice and systematic repression by the Tunisian authorities.
Jawhar Ben Mbarek, incarcerated in connection with the so-called "conspiracy" case, has been on a wild hunger strike since October 29, 2025, refusing food, water and medication, in protest against an "impossible procedure", devoid of the basic conditions for a fair trial.
According to the Collective for the Defense of Political Prisoners, it denounces the "slow, silent murder of opponents" and the creation of a climate of fear and intimidation designed to impose an authoritarian regime.
Political prisoner Saïed Ferjani announced from his cell his decision to go on hunger strike a hunger strike, after refusing to take part in an appeal hearing devoid of any guarantee of justice. He declared that he would continue the fight from his prison, by all possible means, to denounce the injustice and arbitrariness that are being inflicted on all free men and women in Tunisia.
The CRLDHT holds the Tunisian authorities, President Kaïs Saïed and Minister of Justice Leïla Jaffel, personally responsible for the lives and physical, moral and psychological integrity of Jawhar Ben Mbarek and Saïed Ferjani.
We recall that denial of care, abusive isolation and inhumane conditions of detention constitute serious violations of the right to life and human dignity, and may amount to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, prohibited by international law.
We demand :
- The immediate and unconditional release of Jawhar Ben Mbarek, Saïed Ferjani and all political prisoners;
- An end to political trials and the restoration of independent, impartial justice;
- Respect for prisoners' right to health, dignity and psychological and physical integrity;
- Protecting fundamental freedoms, the foundation of any democratic society.
Faced with the authoritarian and morbid drift of a power that transforms justice into a tool of repression, the CRLDHT affirms its total and unwavering solidarity with all prisoners of conscience.
The courage of Jawhar Ben Mbarek and Saïed Ferjani is an act of light against the night of despotism. Their struggle is that of an entire Tunisia that refuses to give in.
Silence kills - solidarity protects and liberates.
