Demand the release of Abir Moussi and all political prisoners of conscience in Tunisia

Abir Moussi, president of the Parti destourien libre, went on a 48-hour hunger strike on Friday January 26 to protest against her imprisonment, which has been ongoing since October 3, 2023 with no justification whatsoever.

As a reminder, Abir Moussi was arrested by security forces and subsequently imprisoned after attempting to file a complaint with the Administrative Court against President Kais Saied's iniquitous decrees concerning local elections, at the office of the President of the Republic. She is now accused of having committed crimes of a criminal nature, including "wilful attack on the authority of the State" and "provocation of unrest on Tunisian soil", charges which, according to her lawyer, carry the death penalty.

Moussi's arrest and the unfounded legal proceedings against him are part of the executive's plan to smash all dissenting voices so that President Kais Saied can implement his liberticidal program, which is plunging Tunisia into ever more crises, and allow him to stand for election at the end of 2024 without any serious opposition. In this way, the current government is completing the complete annihilation of the achievements of the Revolution and definitively establishing the framework for its autocratic reign.

The Committee for the Respect of Freedoms and Human Rights in Tunisia :

  • Demands the release of Abir Moussi and all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, businessmen and citizens who are victims of the arbitrariness of the current government in Tunisia,
  • Calls on the Tunisian authorities to stop using the judicial system to eliminate political opponents and restrict freedom of demonstration and expression,
  • Invites all components of civil society and democratic parties to be more vigilant and supportive, and to take a firm stand against the government's repressive practices, which target all players without exception: political parties, associations, celebrities, businessmen, bloggers and even ordinary citizens...all of whom share the common trait of being considered enemies by Kaïes Saied and his associates.
  • Calls on all judicial bodies to defend their independence and impartiality, the rule of law and justice, so as not to become the sword wielded by a tyrannical government to strike at citizens, violate freedoms and destroy all political activity.
