"Five hours for freedoms and human rights in the Maghreb".

More than ever, the declaration dated March 29, 2023 - "The regimes of the Greater Maghreb converge only to repress their peoples" - signed by many activists, trade unionists, politicians, intellectuals and artists from the Maghreb and immigrant communities, is unfortunately confirmed.

More than ever, the declaration dated March 29, 2023 - "The regimes of the Greater Maghreb converge only to repress their peoples" - signed by many activists, trade unionists, politicians, intellectuals and artists from the Maghreb and immigrant communities, is unfortunately confirmed.

To maintain their hold on power, the regimes in power continue, at home, to use the most elementary human rights violations against their own people. Prisons are increasingly populated by political activists, associations, intellectuals, journalists, trade unionists... In terms of inter-Maghreb relations, we condemn the political intentions and maneuvers of regimes which, instead of working towards rapprochement and complementarity, create tensions between peoples and stir up chauvinism and narrow nationalism. The consequences of the conflict in Western Sahara threaten to explode in the region until a just and lasting peace is achieved on the basis of international law and within the framework of United Nations resolutions.

Faced with this situation, we, organizations, associations and human rights activists from the Maghreb region and elsewhere, are calling once again for a time of exchange, coordination and solidarity, on Saturday June 15, 2024, at the Bourse du Travail in Paris, to :

-reinvigorate and defend our slogan, which we have carried for decades, of a "Maghreb of peoples" for freedom, justice, equality, plurality, democracy - a greater Maghreb where all borders will be dismantled to make way for the free movement of people and goods;

-mobilize our Maghrebian forces, both civil and political, to confront oppression and to take joint action in solidarity with all detainees, the repressed and the marginalized;

-denounce all the aggressions and violations of rights and freedoms perpetrated by the powers that be in each of the Maghreb countries, regarding them as an aggression against all the peoples of the region;

-denounce violence and discrimination against women and fight for de jure and de facto equality between women and men;

-Act against war and for a just and lasting peace in the Western Sahara conflict;

-denounce the worrying rise in racism, violence and aggression against sub-Saharan migrants in the Maghreb countries, particularly Tunisia at present, with the blessing of the European states;
-denounce the situation of all Mauritanian citizens, victims of slavery despite its abolition in 1980.

The day will focus on four main themes:

- the current state of human rights and freedoms throughout the Maghreb ;

- analysis of the obstacles to building a united Maghreb of peoples, and how to get there;

- increased mobilization in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are suffering genocide and various forms of barbaric aggression at the hands of the Zionist apartheid regime, and against the overt or covert normalization of the region's regimes with this criminal state;

- the convergence of inter-Maghrebian struggles to establish a Maghreb of peoples based on solidarity, social justice and democracy.
